Coming Soon in The Beacon

In the next Beacon August 25th, we will look at the revival and reimagining of the Feast of Lanterns. The City Council gave the issue short shrift, and poof, out went the lights of our beloved lanterns and the Feast was no more.
I think we blew our lanterns out too quickly without finding a replacement. I like the idea of a week-long Chautauqua, incorporating as an integral part, a celebration of PG’s Chinese contributions to our history. The lanterns will still fly! Native Americans who lived here before P.G. was established should also have a role.
What is a Chautauqua? Tune in to the next Beacon and find out. In the meantime, I‘d invite anyone with some ideas on this subject to contact me. I’ve been out of the loop for a while, and there might already be some things in the hopper on this. I would like to hear about them. Email me at [email protected] or call me at (831)372-2615. Better yet, write an article or meet with me, and we can work on one together. The Feast was fun, family-friendly, sooooo PG, and so missed. Let’s bring it back!
